Stitched edges underneath the surface: why this is the detail that changes everything

Stitched edges underneath the surface: why this is the detail that changes everything

Two types of stitched edges: the difference no one explains

When a brand advertises "stitched edges," it can mean two very different things:

  • Surface stitching: the thread is visible and tangible on the top
  • Under-surface stitching: the thread passes underneath, leaving the surface perfectly smooth

At The Master Piece, all our mats use under-surface stitching. This is a technical choice, not a marketing ploy.

The Problem of Surface Stitching

On most mats on the market, the stitching is done on the top. Results:

  • A palpable ridge on the edges that you feel under your wrist
  • A dead zone of 3 to 5 mm unusable (the stitching snags the mouse)
  • The stitching can come undone by pulling on the fabric

Sub-surface stitching: our standard across the entire range

All our models benefit from this technique:

The Tangible Benefits

  • 100% usable surface right to the edge — zero dead zones
  • No edge sensation under the wrist during gameplay
  • Increased durability: stitching is not exposed to friction
  • Clean and professional look on all our models

Performance Impact

During intense gaming, wide movements often lead your mouse to the edges. With surface stitching, the mouse can slightly "stumble" and tracking becomes disrupted. With our sub-surface stitched edges, the transition is imperceptible on all our models, from the Vortex to the JX1 ProControl.

A sign of manufacturing philosophy

Stitching under the surface is more complex and costly. This is a choice we apply across our entire range because it's the right way to do it — not just on premium models.
